Welcome! I am an Assistant Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Tecnológico de Monterrey in Nuevo León, Mexico. I earned my Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Colorado Boulder.
I study comparative political behavior. My research focuses on why people support—or resist—elected leaders who undermine democracy. I am also broadly interested in how political contexts shape public attitudes about migration, direct democracy, and related issues.
My work has been published in journals including the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), Comparative Political Studies, Political Behavior, and Electoral Studies.
You can find my CV, links to my research, and associated replication materials on this website. Please don't hesitate to contact me at brettbessen@tec.mx.
